Welcome to Island Rock -
Your First Climb!
‘Sending it’ with Long Island’s Climbing Community since 1996!
Welcome to Island Rock!
Island Rock is dedicated to serving Long Island's Climbing Community. We believe in creating an open and inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. Climbers are the heart and soul of the gym and we would not be able to do what we love without you. We are tremendously proud to be able to lead Long Island's Climbing Community for over 30 years!
We have truly evolved in multiple ways since we first opened in 1996. Most notably after completing an expansion in 2017 that almost doubled our climbing area and added state-of-the-art training boards.
Island Rock is Long Island's longest serving indoor climbing facility. With over 30 years of experience, we like to say that we are on our 'Second Generation" of Long Island birthdays; it's amazing to have parents who had their 6th birthday party here back in the late 90's and now they are hosting their 6 year old child's birthday party here in the 2020's.

Absolutely not!
Island Rock has walls for every ability. If you can climb up a ladder then you can climb here. Climbing is a sport that you get progressively better at the more you do it. Perseverance is the most important factor when you climb. If you are not in good shape, you will see improvements rapidly when you start climbing. The word “can’t” will soon leave your vocabulary, and you will see that you can soar past any limits you previously thought you had.

Rock climbing is FUN, plain and simple. Beyond that, climbing is a total body workout. If you’re not in shape and want to get in shape, rock climbing is perfect for you. You’ll get your heart rate pumping for a cardio workout while you work your upper body, abdominals and lower body for strength. If you already exercise, this is an amazing workout that beats the boring workouts you can suffer at other gyms. Climbing has been featured in health and fitness magazines along with cable and prime time television specials. And it’s easy to stay motivated because it’s so much fun! This is the ultimate fitness experience!

This is for you! There is no better way to get over your fear than to face it. Climbing at Island Rock is a very safe and controlled environment in which you can get over your fear. Our staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with people who are afraid of heights. And it turns out that the people afraid of heights, once over their fears, are often the best climbers in the gym!

Unroped climbing on shorter walls
Bouldering is form of rock climbing without ropes or harnesses. Climbers take on short routes, called “problems,” between 10-15 feet tall. The challenge comes from tricky and powerful moves rather than long endurance climbs.
Boulder is ideal for beginners because:
Easy to start with just shoes, chalk, and crash pads
Bouldering can be done solo, unlike rope climbing
No reservation required for Day Passes
Bouldering Options:
Bouldering Basics Class - sign up for a class to learn the basics of bouldering
Day Passes - can be purchased upon arrival (rental gear also available)
If you are bouldering, please watch the bouldering orientation video and fill the form. It can be located under the Waiver & Forms link.
