Testimonial

I'm a teacher in the Great Neck Public School District.  I am finishing my 25th year in the district.  For the past 12 years, I have been the District's Special Education Outdoor Education Teacher/Coordinator.  Over the past 12 years, I have been bringing groups to Island Rock.  It has been an amazing adventure!

I currently work with 20 different groups of students throughout the District, with classes ranging from Kindergarten through a Transition group where students are 21 years old.  I bring all of them to Island Rock!

I can't even begin to express our thanks to the owner, Rob, managers Mark and Tim, and to all of the staff that has worked with our students.  They have gone above and beyond in accommodating the different needs of our students.  They have been more than flexible, and their professionalism is unmatched!

From our youngest to our oldest students, every kid does well, accomplishing more than they, and we, thought possible.  Overcoming fears, trying something new and challenging, pushing themselves to achieve more and more with each climb, and following the principle of "Challenge by Choice" - all are positive impacts.  Students root each other on, showing a wonderful level of caring and teamwork.  One can only imagine how much this does for self esteem, not to mention the physical fitness aspect. It also teaches students to follow directions, increases focus, and problem solving.

The folks at Island Rock have done so much for our students, and I am truly grateful for all they have done, and continue to do for our students.  Island Rock is an integral part of our program.  We are already looking forward to our visits in the upcoming school year, and for years to come!
